Tent, trailer tent, technical tent

Tents are perfect for the camping holiday, with the amount of people that can sleep in them can range from 1 to 10. You can buy your tent for comfort, the various size or just the fact that you’re going to be sleeping outside with the elements and that you will be enjoying yourself with family and friends.

Your tent will be your portable home from home whether you are on a campsite or a remote windswept mountain. It is your barrier from the many elements like the wind, rain, snow and midges. A well chosen tent will allow you to live and sleep relatively comfortably in almost any environment that you find yourself in. Choose a tent that will provide you with the highest ratio of comfort vs. weight and pack size. Whether you are travelling light or setting up a base camp in a summer campsite, there will be a tent for you.

The main things to think about when looking or purchasing your tent will be what your using it for, if you are going to be in the hills or on a flat field in a campsite, you need to know what you are going to be using it for so that you can get the best one that will protect you from the elements.

You will need to know how to pitch your tent too! You don’t want to be out in a cold wet field where it is raining and not know how to put it up! It is always a good idea to familiarise yourself with it and have a few practice runs before you use it properly for the first time.

Tent

Dome, tunnel, geodesic are the three design kinds.
The dome style is the one that is most popular, most family camping holiday makers will mostly use this dome style tent. This one has the maximum headroom and space. The dome tents are the most simplest to pitch and may be best pitched when at a lower level and most sheltered camp spots.
The tunnel tents offer a larger amount of space inside the tent. There are less poles to place in the tents which make the tents lighter and also faster and more simple to pitch up. Many of the models of this tent are designed for mainly extreme bad weather, but they may be less rigid in the high winds. Extreme tunnel tents need extra poles and guy lines.

The geodesic design is a modern twist in the dome tent. These use a clever pole position to increase the rigidness and stability of these tents. Geodesics tent designs are free standing; this makes the tents easier to pitch on soft, uneven or even hard ground. The extra poles are there to give extra weight to the tent.

A tent is a shelter consisting of sheets of fabric or other material draped over or attached to a frame of poles or attached to a supporting rope. While smaller tents may be free-standing or attached to the ground, large tents are usually anchored using guy ropes tied to stakes or tent pegs. First used as portable homes by nomadic peoples, tents are now more often used for recreational camping and temporary shelters.

Tents range in size from "bivouac" structures just big enough for one person to sleep in up to huge (circus) tents capable of seating thousands of people. The bulk of this article is concerned with tents used for recreational camping which have sleeping space for one to ten people. Larger tents are discussed in a separate section below.

Tents for recreational camping fall into two categories. Tents intended to be carried by backpackers are the smallest and lightest type. Smaller tents may be sufficiently light that they can be carried for long distances on a touring bicycle, a boat, or even a person's back. The military organizations of most nations use such tents to temporarily house troops living and working under field conditions.

The second type are larger, heavier tents which are usually carried in a car or other vehicle. Depending on tent size and the experience of the person or people involved, such tents can usually be assembled (pitched) in between 5 and 25 minutes; disassembly (striking) takes a similar length of time. Some very specialised tents have spring-loaded poles and can be 'pitched' in seconds, but take somewhat longer to strike.
